Pat Andrea

click picture to play or enlarge
This is from Pat Andrea, which I lost out of sight for a while. Not so weird, considering he's moving from and to homes/studio's in Paris and Buenos Aires. He got well known for a bigger audience when he illustrated the Gestures Book. (below is cover)
And his teacher on Artschool was Co Westerik, famous Dutch Painter of whom you see his most well known painting, "Cutting on grass".

Is it me who did myself?

click picture to play or enlarge
The me I'm referring to is Rembrandt. Until now they thought a pupil of his made it and this week it was announced they think it's the real thing. The above is a jpg and not a YouTube movie, so he can't tell us himself. The face reminds me of faces I saw on the paintings by one of my heroes, when I attended Artschool, Pat Andrea (tomorrow an example)

A face - WOW!

click picture to play or enlarge
I told you about the Flickr-Faces and the Faces in Places blog before. When I saw this one on the Flickrpage I outcried - "WOW!". I'm curious if the blog takes it as one of the chosen few, but I have many times been wrong about which he would pick. But - "MAN!", is this a fuckin'wonderful face in the sky or what?

Sleepy Horse

click picture to play or enlarge

It's not the name of an Indian Chief. This horse is not a warrior. He's probably dreaming of lying on his back in the grass, with a daisy in his mouth, or running along the coastline of a sandy beach, or ................ other dreamstuff.

TTRH

click picture to play or enlarge

Bob than and Bob now. Something must have happened/changed in between. Something happened/changed in my appreciation for Bob and his music. Did not like it in the past, even got worse when infatuated girls kept showing their lovesickness and desire for Bob by repeatingly playing his songs on a guitar and singing them trying to sound full of feeling/passion but only able to be overenthousiastic.
Anyway, I really like his songs now. Very much.
And I like his TTRH-shows too. Bob presents a radioshow on XM Satellite Radio , called the "Theme Time Radio Hour". He's doing that for the second year now and plays all kind of old music (folk, blues, pop and more) all gathered on a theme. Like for instance baseball, coffee or Mama.
I'm regulary listening to his shows of last year. You can find an archive of them here (50 themes and 52 hours).

Candy floss/Cotton candy

click picture to play or enlarge
Candy floss/Cotton candy is "Suikerspin" in dutch. Literally translated, "Sugarspider".
In reality the dutch "spin" is coming from rotating with speed/spinning and making thread of wool or cotton. And not the spider, which is also named "spin" in dutch. Ofcourse because a spider also spins his thread.
And way back in the 1950's-60's when ladies's build up towers of hair with hairspray, we called that "Suikerspin". As a kid I was most impressed with Cotton Candy ladies, with stiletto heels.

Black'N Roll

click picture to play or enlarge

They build a old fashioned replica Solex in China nowadays and because the Solex-brand is protected, they, a little too playfully call it the "Black'N Roll". And here you can see the different models inthe past in photo's (Dutch). I even found that a futuric looking electric model is being developed in France.
But above is the Dutch Berini M13, nicknamed "the Egg". In my youth I have a couple of times seen it mounted on the backwheel of a scooter. ( Is scooter still valid for a two wheel vehicle on which you move forward by standing on a platform between the two small wheels a making forward movement by stepping with one foot?)

Statues in Amersfoort - 1

click picture to play or enlarge
Regular I will lead you around Amersfoort, to show you some of the statues/sculptures that give a face to Amersfoort. This one is placed in front of a Assurance Company building. It's the guy that would drive around on his Solex to collect the contribution for when you were part of "The National Health Insurance"around 1950-60. When you could not afford to be in the private health insurance, because you were not making enough money. (Clicking on the image reveals a 3 image GIF)
